His absence lasted a total of 15 months, as Matteo Maiocchi—a No. 4 spiker who will turn 28 at the end of September—returned to ErmGroup Altotevere after a stint with Gabbiano FarmaMed Mantova. He returns in top form, having just completed a full season, whereas he arrived in San Giustino in December 2024, near the end of the first half of the season and recovering from an injury. He played for Cantù and Reggio Emilia in A2, Allianz Milano in the Superleague, making his debut in the top division, then back in A2 with Santa Croce sull’Arno and Reggio Emilia, and finally A3 with Altotevere and Mantova. His current career tally, aggregated across all three categories, is 1,158 points, of which 962 were on offense; 89 aces and 107 blocks. With Virgilian team, Maiocchi scored 302 points, broken down as follows: 246 in attack, 29 serving, and 27 blocking. Now, his return to the white and blues: “This place has remained in my heart,” the Milanese player immediately stated, “so when the call came, my response was instinctive. So here I am again, and with great ambitions.”
