Buoyed by their 3-1 victory a week ago at home at PalaSguaitzer, Gabbiano Farmamed Mantova flies to Sicily today to try and put the matter of Avimecc Modica behind them (kick-off is tomorrow at 5:00 PM).
Given their home performance, Radici’s boys will only need to win two sets to advance to the next round. Should the Sicilians win 3-0 or 3-1, a Golden Set (to 15 points) will be required to decide who will advance to the quarterfinals.
“Maximum concentration,” warns sporting director Nicola Artoni, “because we haven’t done anything yet. It’s true, we’re in an advantageous position, but we know that in volleyball everything can change quickly, and so we must take the court as if we were playing everything in a single match, without making too many calculations.”
For this final playoff run, Gabbiano will finally be able to count on all of its players, a factor that will undoubtedly be decisive even if they advance to the next round.
If they reach the quarterfinals, Gola and his teammates will most likely face BCC Tecbus Castellana Grotte, who beat Cus Cagliari 3-2 in their first leg (away). But as we all know, the playoffs, in any sport, are a tournament apart, and surprises are always around the corner.
