Campi Reali Cantù makes its second return for the 2026/2027 season. This is a player who has never hidden his affection for this jersey and this club, and is in his seventh season in the shadow of the San Paolo bell tower. Federico Mazza returns from Virtus Aversa, a recent semifinalist in the Promotion Playoffs.
Coach Tommaso Invernici commented on the return: “Federico Mazza’s return is a welcome one for a player who wants to carve out a key role as a flagship for Cantù.”
These are the player’s words: “This will be my seventh year at Campi Reali, and I’m very happy about it. I’m coming home: Cantù has always been home, and always will be. It’s the team where I played my first year in Serie A, and it’s always nice to return. It means I’ve left a good impression, and that the club thinks highly of me. So yes, I’m very happy. Then there’s the fact that I’m back home: not that the distance was a problem before, but this year there were several factors that made staying here the best choice. I know it will be a very young team. I’m 30 and I’m the ‘old’ one now, even if I don’t feel that way inside yet! This situation gives me more responsibility. Since in recent years Dario (Monguzzi, ed.) and now Buts (Luca Butti, ed.) have left, I almost feel obliged to ‘take over’ Cantù, given my past experience with this jersey. But I’m happy to have a young group. The championship has always shown me that young players have that extra spark.
