Plus Volleyball Sabaudia adds another addition to its spikers’ department. Coach Stefano Beltrame is adding Simone Orto, born in 2004, a Sicilian athlete fresh from his experience with Aurispa Lecce in Serie A3 and already a prominent figure in Serie A2 with Ravenna and Acicastello.

For Orto, this is a decision that was informed by his impressions of opponents and the stories of many teammates he’s met over the years. “The opportunity to join Sabaudia came about somewhat by chance, as the club was looking for a spiker to join a very young group, and my agent told me about the project,” explains the Sicilian player. “I played against them last year and was already familiar with the environment. Furthermore, several of my friends have worn this jersey and have always spoken highly of it. It was a decision I made with conviction.”

One of the aspects that most convinced the new spiker was the team’s philosophy. “I like the idea of joining a young group. I already know many of the players from youth championships, and I think this will make it easier to integrate,” Orto continues. “I’ve spent seasons on teams built to win at all costs, where the pressure was extremely high and ultimately the goals weren’t achieved. I believe, however, that playing with composure allows for better volleyball. Speaking with sporting director Paolo Torre, we shared the desire to build a path without setting limits but also without burdening ourselves with unnecessary pressure.”
