Twenty-two years old, 206 centimeters tall, and a resume that speaks for itself: Rinascita Volley Lagonegro looks to the present and the future, and they do so with Gaetano Penna, the new starting opposite hitter for coach Waldo Kantor.
Born in Avellino in 2004, Penna arrives in Basilicata after a journey that saw him grow season after season, becoming one of the most prolific players in the latest A2 Credem Banca series. President Nicola Carlomagno was the one who strongly desired him, convinced that the young Campanian has all the qualities to become the offensive focal point of the 2026/2027 red and white team, ideally taking over the baton left by Diego Cantagalli.
While his physique speaks first—those 206 cm that make him a fearsome weapon at the net—his athletic career, brief in years but already packed with significant achievements, confirms his qualities. Penna took his first volleyball steps in the prestigious Lube Civitanova youth academy, one of the most renowned talent breeding grounds in the country, where he developed his skills before making his SuperLega debut in the 2021/22 season, still very young. A few months later, he was called up to the U20 national team, with whom he won the 2022 continental title: a trophy that immediately confirmed the attributes of a player destined for further growth.
