Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza struggled, resisted, and finally celebrated, defeating Jihostroj Ceske Budejovice in the Golden Set. This victory allowed the team coached by Dante Boninfante to advance to the Round of 16, where they will face Rio Duero Soria (a Spanish club).
Right after trailing in the set count, the Emilians tied the set, then lost the third and fourth sets, and had to fight to advance to the decisive Golden Set, which ended in a tiebreaker (19 to 17 in favor of Bovolenta and teammates). The Italian opposite hitter was the top scorer of the match with 20 total points, followed by Gutierrez’s 18 and Bergmann’s 17. Mandiraci was rested due to a bout of flu, while Galassi was unable to travel with the team to the Czech Republic for personal reasons.
Piacenza will return to action this weekend, at home, facing Monza at the PalaBancaSport.
