Vilmos Szabo, known to everyone as Vili, is a new player for Cisterna Volley. He hails from Hungary, was born in Szeged, and will turn 24 on August 11th. He is a setter by profession and stands 190 centimeters tall.
He is the sixth addition after Peng (middle hitter), Amaranto (opposite hitter), Federici (libero), Magalini (spiker), and Magliano (spiker), who join the “old” Fanizza (setter), Barotto (opposite hitter), Mazzone (middle hitter), Tosti (middle hitter), and Lanza (spiker). To complete the roster available to coach Morato for the 2026-2027 season, only a spiker, a libero, and a middle blocker are now missing.
For Vilmos Szabo, as for all foreigners who reach the SuperLega, playing in Italy’s top volleyball league is not only a dream come true, but also an important message for all young Hungarians: with hard work and willpower, it’s possible to reach the most important, challenging, and beautiful league there is,” Vili emphasized. “I’ve always followed your league, I’m informed about the teams and players, and in fact this year I’ve watched not only almost all the A1 matches, but also quite a few A2 ones. When my agent told me that Cisterna might be making a request for me, I simply replied: ‘Accept the first offer they make, anything goes.’ And that’s exactly how it went. The day he called to tell me it was done, I was in the car on my way to practice: I smiled and daydreamed the entire training session, and I didn’t even answer anyone who asked me what had happened; my mind was in another world, the world of dreams that come true.
