The celebratory tour continues, as it should. And after four finals, the Reggio Calabria municipal administration chose to honor Domotek Volley, which is flying up to Serie A2, with the entire team present in the Council Chamber. It was time to take stock with coach Antonio Polimeni: “This year we’ve captured all these emotions. It was fantastic because finally being able to win everything in one year is truly incredible. Plus, I also received the San Giorgio d’Oro: it makes you understand how I’m still struggling to realize it all.”
Polimeni doesn’t hide the difficulty in digesting a dream season. “I had to immediately put the Del Monte Coppa Italia victory aside and let the boys do it too. The same thing with the Super Cup. We didn’t want to fully enjoy those days. Because we probably had to focus on the most important goal: the one that gets you to play in a major league, the second top division. Let’s remember that the Italian league is the best in the world. And now let’s make it happen.”
The coach emphasizes the value of a group that goes far beyond the pitch. “We’re on a fantastic journey made up of equally fantastic people, represented not only by the players, but also by a management team that has proven it knows how to win.”
But there’s also a hint of nostalgia. “It’s wonderful to go to the official buildings, but do you already miss the PalaCalafiore?” We’re tired, I’m tired. I need a break. I’d be lying if I said no. I already know that in a few days, I’ll miss the boys, the daily routine with them, the banter, the relationship. But I already know that phones bring us so close these days. But now I’ll tell you the truth: I need to unplug, because it’s been a year as beautiful as it was tiring. As it should be. And I’m just happy that my tiredness, that of the boys, the management, the club, has been fully compensated by these extraordinary goals achieved.
The city’s embrace has been overwhelming. “We all get stopped in the street, it’s all anyone talks about now. Last year we were talking about Volley-Mania, now it’s truly something sensational. It’s a unique group.”
