The regular season is now behind us. What matters now is April 12th in Prata di Pordenone, the first game of the Promotion Playoff Quarterfinals.
Forty-three points in the standings, an all-time record for Rinascita Volley Lagonegro in the Credem Banca Serie A2, 24 of which were earned in the second half of the season alone, with seven wins out of thirteen total this season. A crescendo that has left its mark, and which now becomes the foundation from which to build. Few celebrations, but instead focus immediately on the next objective: this is the mantra that coach Waldo Kantor has repeated since arriving in Lagonegro. For him, the game the day after tomorrow doesn’t exist, nor does the distant finish line exist: only the next match exists, to be prepared for with maximum concentration and faced with everything, in training and on the court. A philosophy the group has embraced week after week, and which now also guides their preparation for Game 1. Ten days in which the priority is one: taking care of each individual athlete’s physical condition, working meticulously on prevention and training to arrive in Friuli in the best possible condition. The man who oversees these aspects down to the smallest detail, physical trainer Vincenzo Ghizzoni, is taking stock.
The planning process isn’t just born today.
“This is a unique period,” Ghizzoni begins. “It’s natural to arrive at the playoffs in athletic condition that needs improving: there’s a whole season on your legs, with all the physical and mental demands that entails. But the boys are responding very well, with great precision in training and constant attention to prevention exercises.”
