He arrived mid-season, barely having time to settle in, yet Tommaso Motta, the young opposite hitter from Domotek Volley, has made a significant impact on this dream season. He recounts the highlights of a year he’ll never forget.
“I must say that when I first arrived here in Reggio Calabria, I didn’t expect to experience a season like this, a year full of successes I never would have expected,” Motta begins, still filled with enthusiasm. “Three wins out of three: first the Coppa Italia Del Monte, then the Supercoppa, and finally promotion to Serie A2. It’s a season that won’t be repeated easily; in fact, you don’t have to get used to it. I’m really happy.”
Motta repeatedly emphasizes the importance of the atmosphere he found at the Reggio Calabria club. “A very nice group: teammates always willing to help and support each other. And then, on a human level, they’re great people.”
When asked who he learned the most from during this experience, the young opposite hitter has no doubts: “Definitely from my opposite hitter, Domenico Laganà. He’s a great person, and since he’s also an opposite hitter, I tried to draw inspiration from him, taking on many of his characteristics, both mentally and physically. The other older guys, like Lazzaretto, Zappoli, and Saitta, were also a huge help.”
Motta also warmly praises the local crowd. “The support we have here in Reggio Calabria is truly remarkable. The fans have come to see us both at home and away—like in Reggio Emilia in the promotion playoff—supporting us in the most difficult moments, but especially in the victorious ones.”
