Domotek Volley has made history, and one of its most iconic players is telling the story, his veins swollen with pride. Middle blocker Luca Presta, a Calabrian born and bred, and one of the most experienced and decisive players in the entire championship, didn’t mince words when explaining the secret to a triumphant run that culminated in a victory in the playoff finals and promotion.
But the middle blocker from Reggio Calabria didn’t stop at individual skill, immediately shifting his focus to the true driving force behind its success. “In my opinion, the key was above all the team, the unity that all 14 of us had from day one. From the moment we started, that led us to the very end, achieving the goal we wanted. And we all know what that was.”
Presta, however, is more than just an athlete: he’s a son of this land. And on his most beautiful day, he couldn’t forget his roots. “The first people I called after the game were my grandmothers,” he said emotionally. “The first thing they said? ‘Congratulations.’ And they emphasized how often it’s been mentioned in commentary that Belvedere, Diamante, and all the surrounding areas have supported me from day one.” A very strong regional identity, which Presta ties inextricably to the names of those who made all this possible. “It’s nice to recognize this Calabrian identity, which comes from Saverio De Santis, Max Lopetrone, Captain Laganà, and then all my teammates, who have become citizens of Reggio.” Because here, in Reggio, more than just a page in the history of sport has been written: “The atmosphere is spectacular. Inside and outside the arena. I’ve bonded with people outside the world of volleyball, and this helps us play a positive game and feel good.”
