Delta Volley Porto Viro has its new top-scoring player: Diego Cantagalli, a 203-centimeter-tall opposite player born in 1999, arrives from Rinascita Lagonegro, where he played the last two seasons. The son of the legendary Luca “Bazooka” arrives in Polesine, bringing 3,321 points in 253 Serie A matches.

Born in Palermo, Cantagalli began his career in the Cavriago youth team and then joined the Lube youth team, where he also played his first senior championships (in Serie D) between 2012 and 2014. After three years at Paoloni Appignano, spent between Serie B2 and Serie B, he joined Club Italia in 2017/2018 for his first promotion to Serie A2.

In 2018/2019, he returned to Lube, where he enjoyed a magical season: he made his SuperLega debut, won the Scudetto and the Champions League, and also won the Junior League with the Under-20s. That summer, he also took part in the Italian team’s expedition to the Under-21 World Cup in Bahrain, earning a silver medal, the culmination of his experience with the youth national teams, which began in 2015.

In 2019/2020, Cantagalli moved to Brugherio in Serie A3 to play more consistently: he finished the year with 441 clearances and received a call-up to Ortona in Serie A2. With the Abruzzo team, he was relegated after a dramatic relegation battle with Porto Viro, but set the individual record for points (46) in a single match in the Serie B, which still stands.

In 2021/2022, the new black-and-fuchsia signing moved to Reggio Emilia, where he won the Italian Cup and the playoffs, finishing the season with 512 points. The club forfeited its SuperLega membership, and Cantagalli played another A2 season in Reggio, then returned to Ortona, still in the second national division.
