Trentino Itas’s CEV Champions League season run comes to a halt just shy of the quarterfinals. This evening, the Italian champions failed to replicate the result they achieved seven days earlier in Poland, losing the second leg of their round of 16 tie-break 2-3 at the BTS Arena in Trento, followed by a 9-15 defeat in the subsequent golden set playoff.
The elimination came in dramatic fashion, after over two hours and forty minutes of intense battle, with the yellow-blues showing their best in the first three sets. After losing the opening set in a sprint, they won the next two with determination, 25-19, before succumbing to a comeback from their opponents, who, with Gomulka (24 points) and Semeniuk (15, with five blocks), raced to a tie-break victory and a comeback in the tie-break, having trailed 7-4. Faure’s 34 points (with a 64% net percentage, three aces, and a block), Lavia’s 20 (with four blocks and two serves), and her constant desire to fight for every ball weren’t enough to secure a spot in the top eight of the competition; for the second time in eight appearances in the CEV Champions League round of 16, Trentino Volley has been eliminated.
The next match is on Sunday, March 15th at 6:00 PM in Civitanova Marche for Game 2 of the 2026 Credem Banca Scudetto Playoff quarterfinals.
