Domotek Reggio Calabria – Negrini CTE Acqui Terme 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-16)

Great volleyball action on Friday, May 1st in the third national division. The return leg of the Credem Banca Serie A3 Playoff Semifinals offers thrills at the net and the most anticipated results. Battling for a promotion to Serie A will be Domotek Reggio Calabria, who also won their return match against Negrini CTE Acqui Terme, and Belluno Volley, who managed to overturn their double-header against ErmGroup Altotevere San Giustino in the Golden Set.

Anything goes in the 5:30 PM marathon at the VHV Arena, where hosts Belluno Volley and ErmGroup Altotevere San Giustino engage in one of the most intense matches of the year in the division. After losing in the tie-break in the first leg, the Veneto team restores parity at the end of a thrilling match and then scores the final blow in the extra set. After Belluno’s two-set lead, the Umbrians responded to tie the score at 2-2, but the home team made a decisive breakthrough in the final tie-break and did the same in a thrilling Golden Set, crucial to reaching the final act of the playoffs after a 161-minute back-and-forth. Corrado scored 25 points, while Alpini added 26, but left the court with a bitter taste in his mouth for having only just missed the target.

Calabrians put in a show of strength in the 8:00 PM match. Buoyed by a resounding away win in the first leg, the home team Domotek Reggio Calabria made the most of their second chance to chase down Serie A2 Credem Banca after a tense conclusion to the Promotion Playoff. Negrini CTE Acqui Terme tried, but failed to impress and still emerged from the tournament with their heads held high after a resounding second phase. The gap in the double semifinals was too large, despite Argenta’s 15 points, a consistently dangerous opponent. The visitors fought hard in the first two sets, then left the stage open for their opponents to triumph. Their superior blocking, combined with their team play and ability to limit errors, rewarded the dominant team in the Blue Group, which will play Game 1 and the potential Game 3 of the final round at home to advance to the next division.
