Rana Verona is the third team to qualify for the SuperLega Credem Banca Playoff Semifinals: Fabio Soli’s team defeated Allianz Cloud for the second time in the series and secured a spot in the next round, where they will face Cucine Lube Civitanova. This is Verona Volley’s first playoff semifinal qualification; a result that will also guarantee their participation in a European competition next season.
Allianz Milano had no chance, having lost to the Venetians after Wednesday’s away defeat that had reopened and extended their series. The season is far from over for Reggers and his teammates, as they face the double-header of the CEV Challenge Cup Final (March 25 and April 1), as well as the Credem Banca 5th Place Playoff, which the Milanese team won last year. This will give Milan a shot at qualifying for the Challenge Cup for the second consecutive year. Standing in their way in the quarterfinals will be Cisterna Volley.
The match was evenly matched, with the first two sets being hard-fought and played point-for-point, with Verona more focused and able to find the winning break. The third set, however, was almost entirely dominated by Verona. Verona’s high attacking percentages were decisive, with all the sideline players in double figures: Keita with 18 points, Darlan with 13, and captain Mozic with 12. However, the MVP award went to former player Staforini. Among the Allianz players, Ichino (11) stood out, supported by Otsuka (10).
