There’s also a hint of Sonepar Padova in the bronze medal won by the men’s national university team at the FISU Summer World University Games, held in Berlin. Among the athletes available to coach Vincenzo Fanizza were two Juventus players: spiker Mattia Orioli and middle blocker Andrea Truocchio.
The Azzurri finished the event in third place, defeating Japan 3-1 in the bronze medal match. This result confirms the solidity of a run that began with three group wins (against South Korea, Germany, and the United States), continued with a quarterfinal victory against the Czech Republic, and was only interrupted in the semifinals, in a tie-break, by the Brazilian team. This is Italy’s third consecutive medal in this competition.
