The week leading up to the VNL Finals, scheduled for Wednesday, July 30th, to Sunday, August 3rd, in Ningbo, China, has begun. The teams will be Italy, Cuba, Brazil, China, France, Slovenia, Japan, and Poland.
Ferdinando De Giorgi’s Italy will be the first team to take to the court, facing Cuba at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30th, in the first quarterfinal of the competition. The semifinal against the winner of France-Slovenia is up for grabs. Three Modena Volley players have been called up to the Italian national team for the event: Simone Anzani, Luca Porro, and Giovanni Sanguinetti.
The two middle blockers and the young spiker all contributed to reaching the final stages of the VNL: Anzani, who played in the Pools in Canada and Slovenia, made his mark in the matches against Slovenia and Bulgaria; Porro, the top scorer in the match played in Ljubljana against the Netherlands, also scored 17 points for Germany, 18 for France, and 21 for Argentina. Finally, Sanguinetti, who played for Germany and China, is back in the squad after missing the final stage.
