Quarterfinals Game 2 Play Off Scudetto Credem Banca:
Vero Volley Monza – Sir Susa Scai Perugia 2-3 (25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 19-25, 11-15)
Cucine Lube Civitanova – Itas Trentino 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-20)
Allianz Milano – Rana Verona 2-3 (27-25, 25-20, 16-25, 22-25, 15-17)
Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza – Valsa Group Modena 3-2 (18-25, 25-17, 28-30, 25-21, 18-16)
Following Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza’s dramatic tiebreaker victory at home against Valsa Group Modena, a result that restored parity in the series (1-1), the second act of the Credem Banca Scudetto Playoff Quarterfinals concludes with three matches on Sunday.
At the Opiquad Arena, the home team Vero Volley Monza gave Sir Susa Scai Perugia a tough test, but the visitors prevailed in the tiebreaker, extending their series lead (2-0). Twice leading, the Brianza team was caught by the Umbrians, led by Semeniuk, MVP with 22 points. Sir finally overtook them in the final minutes. Also scoring double figures for Perugia were Russo (16) and Ben Tara (15). Among the Lombard giants, Frascio received a standing ovation, posting his career-best performance with 27 points. Velichkov (17), Rohrs (14), and Beretta (10) also performed well. Game 3, Wednesday, March 18 (8:30 PM).
At the Eurosuole Forum, Cucine Lube Civitanova gave Itas Trentino no chance, missing spikers Lavia and Michieletto, who were out. Led by top scorer Alex Nikolov (19 goals) and MVP Mattia Bottolo, who scored 13 points and played Deus Ex Machina in the most critical situations, the red and whites put pressure on the Dolomites, who closed the match with only Ramon (13 points) in double figures. Marcelo Mendez’s men deserved credit for staying in the game in the third set, but they made life difficult for the Cucine Lube team in the middle of the set, providing some thrills. Consistent attack, solid blocking, and top-notch reception rewarded Giampaolo Medei’s team, who took a 2-0 lead in the series and will have first match point to advance to the next round on Wednesday, March 18 (8:30 PM) in Trento. The Trentino team needs three straight wins and the blanket is short.
A remarkable show of strength on the road for Rana Verona, who takes a 2-0 lead in the quarterfinal series thanks to a monstrous tie-break comeback against a combative Allianz Milano team that controlled the match in the first two sets. After trailing by two sets at the Allianz Cloud, the Verona team changed pace and brought the match back into balance, then engaged in a very close battle in the fifth set, decided by two advantage points. The usual players in the Veneto group are Keita (21 points) and Darlan (18), but Mozic (13) and Zingel (10) also reach double figures. Among the Milanese players, top scorer Reggers (33 points), Otsuka (14), and Ichino (13) stand out. Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday the 18th at 8:30 PM in Verona.
