An award that isn’t just a prize, but a collective embrace. A caress that becomes responsibility. And a childhood dream that, finally, reaches the sky.
It was with a pounding heart, between unshed tears and liberating smiles, that the coach and founder of Domotek Volley, former Italian Cup and Super Cup champion, received the San Giorgio d’Oro, the highest honor bestowed by the City of Reggio Calabria. It’s a moment that will remain etched in the memory of those who, as a child, ran through the city streets dreaming of one day becoming “a symbol, a symbol of Reggio Calabria.”
“It’s certainly a significant honor,” he confessed immediately afterward, his voice still vibrant, “and for me, who live the Reggio spirit from morning to night, it’s incredibly emotional. I thrive on managing both negative and positive emotions, and today was tough. But my happiness is truly beyond measure.” Words that ring true, far from cliché. Because those who build every day, in the gym and out, know that goals are earned through hard work, dreamed of, and sometimes even suffered.
The newly crowned champion doesn’t hide the spirit of a child of yesterday, who has never stopped looking to the horizon with eyes full of hope. “As a child, I truly dreamed of being so praised that I would become a regal identity, a symbol of Reggio. This furthermore makes me feel responsible for trying to do better and more. It’s clear: I have now reached the highest step of my dreams.” A step that, however, in the logic of sport and life, is not a point of arrival, but a springboard.
With the wisdom of someone who knows the field and its laws, the founder and head coach of Domotek immediately transformed his pride into a commitment to the future: “Like in volleyball, now I have to go back down, go back. Because in volleyball, you run up to try to jump higher and better. That’s what the city deserves: time, patience, consistency. Reggio deserves constant and ever-increasing satisfaction.” And speaking of the future, his thoughts turn to an arena just waiting to explode with passion.
The Palacalafiore is the beating heart of the project. And the dream, now a mission, is clear: “I think your new dream will be to fill all the seats at the PalaCalafiore for the next match? It’s a promise I made to myself, to my family, to my son, and to the club when we were born.
