We’re starting over with the coach. Delta Volley Porto Viro is laying the foundation for the new season by announcing the contract renewal of Matteo Bologna: the young coach from Ravenna (who turns 29 on October 4th) will also lead the black-and-fuchsia first team in the 2026/2027 Credem Banca Serie A2 championship. This confirmation comes in light of the brilliant results achieved in the second half of last season, culminating in early relegation and qualification for the playoffs.
Having arrived under President Veronese as assistant to Daniele Moretti, Bologna took over as head coach in November 2025, after the mutual termination of the contract with the coach from the Marche region. After a few games to settle in, Bologna showed a remarkable improvement in the second half of the season, during which Porto Viro recorded the third-best performance in the division, finishing eighth in the standings.
The Polesine team also made their voices heard in the playoffs, losing to Pineto—winners of the Regular Season, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa—only in the tiebreaker of Game 3 of the playoff quarterfinals.
A dazzling debut as head coach for Bologna, who previously worked with legends such as Marco Bonitta, Carlos Javier Weber, Andrea Anastasi, and Ljubomir Travica, working for three seasons in the SuperLega and also gaining experience abroad, in the Polish top division.
“First of all, I want to thank the club, and especially the president, for renewing their trust in me,” Bologna commented. “For me, it’s a tremendous demonstration of respect, which I will try to repay every day with my work. If someone had told me a year ago that today I would be signing a contract extension as head coach of a Serie A2 team, I probably would have laughed. Over the years, I’ve learned how much this job forces you to continually confirm and renew yourself.”
