The red&blue spiker interviewed after yesterdays’ All Star, grieving Lazio supporter

Prisma Taranto Volley player and Lazio supporter. Giuseppe Patriarca, spiker and one of the stars of the Serie A1 players who took part in the All Star Volley on sunday, has gone through different emotions.
“Great joy and satisfaction for taking part in the event last night, in such a peacefull enviroment at Forli Palasport and great sadness for what happened to the Lazio supporter killed at the service station.
I am a Lazio supporter too and I had seen that guy around, he was a normal supporter following his team with his friends.
I was at the Olympic Stadium myself last tuesday watching Lazio – Werder Brema with my dad. This tragedy leaves me shocked but I do not want to judge or anything right now like other people do”.

Thank God volleyball is still a healthy sport. Do you consider yoursel lucky to be part of a movement with an healthy image?

I never liked making a difference. I believe in sport values, any sport. Each sport has different followers. It is all proportiones. Volleyball, compared to football manages less people therefore it is easier to control.
I am happy to be part of this great movement but I do not want to be the one to judge”.

Let’s go back to the All Star, president Bongiovanni declared he could see you in the national team, what do you think?

“It is always nice to receive compliments and I thank the president for everything he said about me. Coach Anastasi knows me well and he knows I am available”.

Are you thinking about the national team?

“Of course I am. It is part of you personal ambitions wearing the national colours, it is a great honour for any players. I have been working hard for a while and I would like to be taken into consideration”.

Let’s talk about your Club. What type of championship has it been so far?

“We have not had much time to train playing every three days. We need two or three points. We could have done better against Perugia, Padova nad Piacenza. With 11-12 points on the side, our place in the standings would have been more realistic. With our 9 points we can’t be at ease but it is not a drama either”.

You have had 6 consecutive defeats. What type of work will you do in the gym, what will you need to improve?

“We need to work on everything repeating the techniques. Compared to other teams we need to try things again and again. Now we can and we will see the results when the championship starts again”.

Do you think it is right that the team needs to be strengthened like the club is intending to do?
None of my business, it is up to the club, I think as a team and if the team wins I am happy”.

Do you believe the safety business is just a problem regarding Taranto, Corigliano and Latina?

“Other clubs might be involved, like Padova or Perugia and even Montichiari”.
