MONDO Super Cup

Mastrangelo’s memory about Sardegna

The big game in Calgiari’s Pala Rockefeller arena is coming up. The Mondo Super Cup between Trentino and Cuneo will take place on Tuesday November 1 at 6pm.

Some players like Jan Stokr, Steve Brinkman and Flavio Gulinelli have shared their memories of their past on the Island. It is now Gigi Mastrangelo’s turn.

“I was very young, we’re talking about 1996-97. It was my first year in the Serie A as a starter. I had recently moved away from the spiker position. Only the previous season in Mondovi in the B1 had I played as a middle blocker. This was a different era. The point system was different, we had not invented the role of libero yet and I used to play a lot more during games, because I used to receive and attack from the second line. This was a good season, I received the Best Under 23 award. It was an excellent club Sant’Antioco: we’d spend the week there, then we’d move to Cagliari for the home games, at the PalaRockefeller arena where we’ll play against Trento tomorrow. Massimiliano Russo, Jerry Rinoldo, Yaremenko, Claudio Nardi, I have good memories. I came back there later as an opponent and again with the National Team. I have many friends in Sardinia, but I only managed to come this summer when I spent two weeks of holidays, in Porto Cervo, and I promise I’ll go back on this beaches, I have great friends waiting for me”.

Round 7 Tuesday

Joys and pains of this weekend have to be left behind to make space for this new round of games to be played this Tuesday. The leader, Segrate will defend the top spot in Città di Castello, who could catch their opponent of the day with 3 points. Following the victory over Loreto and the second place won in the league, Sora hosts Molfetta with Van Dijk doubtful. Molfetta has been surprising and is tied with Sora with 13 points. Beaten for the first time last weekend, Loreto faces two consecutive away games, the first in Genova. Santa Croce and Corigliano will meet for the 8th time in history as only two points separate the two teams. Tied with 11 points with the team from Tuscany, Milan is eager to bounce back against Perugia after two consecutive losses. Perugia beat Cantù this weekend. Both defeated in the last round, Reggio Emilia and Cantù are face to face in what will be a crucial encounter. Cantù is bottom while Reggio aims to get out of the danger zone too. Isernia entertains Castellana Grotte aiming to add to its sole victory gathered so far. Castellana Grotte has only lost twice so far and twice at the tie-break. With three wins and three losses, Club Italia hosts Atripalda, which is on a five game losing streak but which is waiting for the arrival of Argentine spiker Bidegain.
