Piacenza completed its roster with the addition of a fourth spiker Gabriele Maruotti. Born in Fregene in 1988, he has recently been involved with the Italian National team with teammates Vettori in the World League in South Korea and France. Recruited at age 18 in Treviso’s youth ranks, the talent was such that he quickly made it into the first team in 2006-07 until he joined Verona halfway through the season. He moved to Padova in 2008-09 before going back to Treviso. He finished last season at Roma.
“I don’t know the club but looking at the signings made I’d say it’s looking good – said Margotti – I’m sure that Piacenza will have a great season because it has quality players, it could well finish in the top 3”.
