Everything went as most expected in Macerata where the Italian champions disposed of Padova in straight sets. Rested last week, Giuliani’s men made it three wins in as many games this season, including the Super Cup. It was one way traffic all along except for a little of a harder task in the third set. Shumov and young Chilean spiker Bonacic made their debut in this encounter as Podrascanin was not available because of an injury on his thump.

That will do us nicely because in this period it is important to save energy, given that we have an extremely intense phase coming up. I am happy with Bonacic and Shomov’s debuts, even if I do hope to have all the players fit as soon as possible. Trentino keeps marching on impressively, dominating every opponent presenting itself on the other side of the net. This time, they got rid of Molfetta, who had gathered maximum points before this encounter. The southerners were stopped by Trento’s imperial blocking and their effective attack.

Latina woke up in the second set to give Perugia some food for thoughts. But the visitors won it in three sets in a game that was spectacular and played well by both teams.

Despite the problems the club are going through Piacenza managed to put the poor opening home game behind them with a 3-0 victory over Verona. From the halfway point of the first half, Zlatanov and co appeared extremely determined and registered 11 total blocks. Piacenza enjoyed a superb reception too at 56% and an outstanding Mario Jr who found some improbable digs all game long. But the MVP was Zlatanov with 16 points (1 ace, 1 block)
Andrea Radici (Coach Copra Ardelia Piacenza): “We faced a tough client tonight, they have a lot of quality. I am satisfied with this performance, I have to congratulate Zlatanov who seemed to be the man to solve any tricky situation we had, he really deserved to be MVP. This Piacenza team is young, we have not set ourselves any goals but we must play every game to the maximum of our abilities”.
