Thanks to this win, Treia is momentarily top of the table again, but Modena will host Latina on Sunday. Treia’s outside hitter Giulio Sabbi, who substituted the injured Fei, finished top scorer with 24 points (2 blocks, 58% in attack) and was named MVP.
Giulio Sabbi (Cucine Lube Banca Marche): “A great win after a poor first set and bad start. But from the second set we managed to sort things out in many areas of our game and beat Perugia, which is a strong team that really went after it. Let’s enjoy those three points. This will give us confidence for the crucial coming games we have in the next few days, starting with Belgorod in the Champions League. This will be a fundamental game in a heated atmosphere, we’ll go there and try to take points”.
Andrea Giovi (Sir Safety Perugia): “We stayed in it for most of the game, we were one set ahead and with a set point in the fourth, but when you don’t make the most of the opportunities you have against a team like Treia, that’s how it ends up. We’re obviously disappointed and a bit bitter but we’re ready to look ahead and focus on Wednesday’s Champions League game”.
