After eliminating Cucine Lube Civitanova in an emotional semifinal, Sir Sicoma Colussi Perugia wasn’t able to repeat the performance, being defeated by defending champs Zenit Kazan in the final, who won their third Champions League in a row.

Italian teams finished these great two days of volleyball in Roma in 2° and 3° place, after the 3-1 win of Cucine Lube civitanova in 3°/4° Place final versus  Berlin Recycling Volleys. Best setter of the event Sir Sicoma Colussi Perugia’s setter Luciano De Cecco, best Libero of the the event Cucine Lube Civitanova’s Libero Jénia Grebennikov, best spiker of the event Perugia’s Ivan Zaytsev, best Middle Blocker of the event Lube’s Marko Podrascanin, best opposite if the event Perugia’s Aleksander Atanasijevic.
It was a great display of power for coach Alekno’s team, 11 aces, 4 from cuban Leon, with 63% in attack, keeping Perugia far from all the chances to get into the game. Ivan Zaytsev stepped up, trying to do something important in attack, scoring 14 points, the best scorer for Perugia, but it wasn’t enough. In first set it was Butko grerat protagonist for Zenit, blocking and attacking, driving Kazan to an easy win 25-15 in first.  Second set was more balanced, with Perugia in front 16-15 with the ace of De Cecco, with the ace of Atanasijevic on 20-19 and with the attack of Zaytsev on 22-21, but Zenit stepped up with Mikhailov, taking home the set 25-23. In third it was Leon the go to guy for Kazan, with four aces in a row which put Zenit in front 12-6, virtually closing the game. Three more aces for Anderson gave the 18-9 lead to Zenit, who finished the set 25-14, for the final win for the russians.
Ita was a great volleyball show at PalaLottomatica in Roma in last two days, 22.000 total spectators in two days, and a show in a show with Perugia’s fans, always beside the team, in good and bad luck, a great enthusiasm from them, until the end. Also the fans of Lube were great in both the days, and in general all the people who attended to this great expression of volleyball.
Compliments and props to Sir Safety Perugia, the club who organised and hosted this event, a success in all the aspects.

Cucine Lube Civitanova earned the third place in 2017 CEV DHL Champions League, thanks to the 3-1 win in the 3°/4° place final versus germans Berlin Recycling Volleys (29-27, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21). This good result doesn’t cancel the disappointment of the semifinal lost 24 hours before by the hands of Sir Sicoma Colussi Perugia, a bloody tie break loss who relegated Lube to the small final.Second third place in a row for Gianlorenzo Blengini’s team, after the third place in Krakow last season.
Blengini left on bench for rest Davide Candellaro and Jiri Kovar, putting in starting six Klemen Cebulj and Enrico Cester. First set was a fight, with Lube in front, trailed by Berlin, going to the extras, with the win for Lube on 29-27. In second Berlin fought back, attacking with 71%, and grabbing the win 25-22 tying the game. In third it was a Tsvetan Sokolov and Osmany Juantorena Show, 7 points for the bulgarian, 6 for the cuban italian, who drove Lube to the 25-21 win in third set, taking the lead in the game. In fourth the game was balanced, with Lube who took an important lead on 21-17, winning set and game on 25-21.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “We wanted to win this game, we were determined despite the disappointment about yesterday’s loss. Team wanted to cancel the loss after 24 hours and they did it, with great focus, a very important aspect. In first and fourth set we trailed, another important aspect after yesterday’s loss”.
