UnipolSai Superleague 2017/18, approaching 6th round, with the two teams in the lead Sir Safety Conad Perugia e Azimut Modena. Six ames at 18 on Lega Volley Channel: Diatec Trentino – Calzedonia Verona, Wixo LPR Piacenza – Revivre Milano, Gi Group Monza – BCC Castellana Grotte, Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia – Taiwan Excellence Latina, Bunge Ravenna – Kioene Padova e Biosì Indexa Sora – Sir Safety Conad Perugia. Azimut Modena – Cucine Lube Civitanova, live on RAI Sport + HD at 18.15.

Diatec Trentino – Calzedonia Verona. Verona historically was in trouble versus Trento, with only seven wins in 29 games between these two teams. Angelo Lorenzetti’s team is trying to fix some things of their play, continuing struggling, after the loss in civitanova versus Lube, a fought hard 3-0 loss for Trento. On the other hand Nikola Grbic’s team lost on the home turf at Agsm Forum versus Azimut Modena, showing once again some continuity problems.

Wixo LPR Piacenza – Revivre Milano. Seven games between Piacenza and Milano, and seven wins for Alberto Giuliani’s team. Wixo Lpr Piacenza comes from an enthusiastic win in a comeback versus Taiwan Excellence Latina, trailing from 0-2 to a tie break win, due an outstanding performance of spiker Trevor Clavenot and middle blockers Aimone Alletti and Viktor Yosifov. Now Piacenza has 6 points in the standings, and on the other hand, Andrea Giani’s team is with 5 points, suffering for the injuries of Riccardo Sbertoli and Fabio Fanuli, as in last loss on the home turf versus Bunge Ravenna.

Gi Group Monza – BCC Castellana Grotte. One win apiece for these two teams in the previous two matches. Both teams lost the previous Unipolsai Superleague game last wednesday. The home team Gi Group Monza has been demolished by Sir Safety Conad Perugia at PalaEvangelisti, on the other side of the net Bcc Castellana Grotte was great for two sets on the home turf at PalaFlorio in Bari versus Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia, then losing the game at tie break, collapsing in front of the power of Vibo.
Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia – Taiwan Excellence Latina. Eleven wins out of eighteen for Taiwan Excellence Latina, but in this moment of the season it seems that Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia is in good shape, after the two last road wins in a row collected by Lorenzo Tubertini’s team in Monza versus Gi Group and in Bari versus Bcc Castellana Grotte. On the other hand Top Volley Latina lost on the home turf at PalaBianchini versus Wixo Lpr Piacenza, after being trailed from 2-0 to tie break.

Bunge Ravenna – Kioene Padova. A classic challenge of Serie A will take place next sunday at Pala De Andrè. Two veteran teams of Serie A1 and Superleague will face each other once again. 58 games between Ravenna and Padova in the history, 31 wins for Kioene and 27 wins for Bunge. Will be a great chance for Fabio Soli’s team to stay around the top of the Superleague standings, after the important win on road at PalaYamamay versus Revivre Milano last wednesday. On the other hand Kioene is coming from a clear home win over Biosì Indexa Sora, with a great performance of opposite Gabriele Nelli.

Biosì Indexa Sora – Sir Safety Conad Perugia. Last team in the standings will face the leader of the pack. Biosì Indexa Sora will face Sir Safety Conad Perugia in a very tough game for coach Mario Barbiero’s team. Lorenzo Bernardi’s team is still perfect in this season, 2 wins in Del Monte Supercup, 1 win in Del Monte Italian Cup, and 5 win in Unipolsai Superleague for Perugia, now looking for the sixth win in a row in the tournament. On the other side of the net Coach mario Barbiero’s team is struggling, always in trouble in the key moments of the games, without being able to step up and win a game.

Azimut Modena – Cucine Lube Civitanova. The game of the week of this 5th Round will be for sure the challenge between two powerhouses Azimut Modena and Cucine Lube Civitanova. At PalaPanini these two great teams will face each other for the 82nd time, 38 wins for Modena and 43 for Civitanova. This match will be already important for both teams, with Modena still undefeated in Superleague and the defending champs who had some troubles, despite the 3-0 win last wednesday on the home turf versus Diatec Trentino. Will be a great spot for Italian Volleyball, two of the best teams in Italy and in the world.

A CACCIA DI RECORD:

In Regular Season: Filippo Lanza – 3 battute vincenti alle 100 (Diatec Trentino).

Nicholas Hoag (Diatec Trentino): “We are struggling in this part of the season, but sometimes we are able to play some good volleyball. We are showing lack of continuity, in Civitanova we improved in reception, but struggling in attack. I trust in our path, we are working hard, and good chances in next games, starting from sunday versus Verona”.

Nikola Grbić (Calzedonia Verona): “We had an intense week, on sunday we’ll be in Trento, but we dropped the game in Bari versus Bcc Castellana Grotte, so we had one trip less than the other teams. We have to learn to play during the week, we’ll play in Europe and we should be used to do this. Trento is a strong team, they are struggling in this moment, but we have to go out there and give 100%”.

Wixo LPR Piacenza – Revivre Milano

PRECEDENTI: 7 (7 Piacenza)

EX: Aimone Alletti a Milano nel 2015-2016, Matteo Piano a Piacenza nel 2009-2010 (Giovanili) e nel 2010-2011.

A CACCIA DI RECORD:

In Regular Season: Simone Parodi – 2 muri vincenti ai 200 (Wixo LPR Piacenza); Klemen Cebulj – 2 battute vincenti alle 100, Alessandro Tondo – 7 punti ai 1000 (Revivre Milano).

In Campionato: Alessandro Tondo – 2 battute vincenti alle 100 (Revivre Milano).

In Campionato e Coppa Italia: Viktor Yosifov – 5 muri vincenti ai 400 (Wixo LPR Piacenza).

Aimone Alletti (Wixo LPR Piacenza): “Sunday at PalaBanca we’ll play on our home turf versus a good team, and will be a tough game for us. Milano is a complete team, with great talent, and very dangerous in the fundamental of serve. Playing with this rhythm, very three days, we should face this challenge with the right approach”.

Matteo De Cecco (Revivre Milano): “Switching the setter is always complicated, especially when you did not expected to be forced to do it. We will have to re build again all the mechanisms and plays and situations. We will need to trust in ourself and be confident, despite the injury problems we had. Piacenza is a good team, they won at the tie break on road in Latina, they have back the opposites, and Baranowicz is a great setter, together with a great spiker as Clavenot. We should guard him very carefully”.

Gi Group Monza – BCC Castellana Grotte

PRECEDENTI: 2 (1 successo per parte)

A CACCIA DI RECORD:

In Regular Season: Simon Hirsch – 10 punti ai 1000 (Gi Group Monza).

In Campionato: Thomas Beretta – 4 muri vincenti ai 500 (Gi Group Monza).

Miguel Angel Falasca (allenatore Gi Group Monza): “We had some trouble in find the right chemistry, with players arrived around the start of the season, especially the setters, together with the high rhythm of this start of season, playing every three days. I did not want some alibies, but this is the reality. We started in best way versus Latina and Sora, then we lost versus the powerhouses. We played at same level with milano, and versus Vibo we struggled. Will be a long tournament, we will have the chance to come back”.

Roberto Cazzaniga (BCC Castellana Grotte): “Gi Group is a very interesting team, with foreign players and italian national team players, they will play for the win, in front of the home fans. We will need to fight back after the loss of last wednesday, will be a beautiful game”.

Marco Izzo (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We are coming from a tough week, with long trips, we are tired but happy for the two wins grabbed on road in Monza and Bari. We know this will be only the beginning, on sunday we’ll play in front of our fans at PalaValentia, where we will need to show continuity and quality, we will need to be patient, will be a big battle”.

Candido Grande (Taiwan Excellence Latina): “We will need to win all the games, and we already know that the game versus Vibo will be complicated. They are coming from two wins in Monza and Castellana, we should work hard and think about what we’ve done versus Civitanova, where we we put on the floor some good volleyball”.

In Campionato: Dragan Travica – 3 muri vincenti ai 200 (Kioene Padova).

In Campionato e Coppa Italia: Paul Buchegger – 4 attacchi vincenti ai 500 (Bunge Ravenna).

Dragan Travica (Kioene Padova): “Ravenna is a team who is making some big waves. They found the right balance, and their results are great. Will be tough to play over there, they have big fans and we will not feel comfortable in play in there. We are working hard, we have enthusiasm you can see it during the game, but we are still in trouble for injuries, I started late to practice for real because of an injury, and playing every three days doesn’t help us. We had a good performance in the serve versus Sora, but we will need to step up again, reducing the mistakes”.

Fabio Soli (Bunge Ravenna): “Will be a tough battle next sunday versus Padova, they are healthy and with some good players who can be devasting in the serve as Gabriele Nelli, Alberto Polo and Luigi Randazzo. We should play with consciousness and confidence, because we know that Padova is not an easy opponent. Patience and defence will be the keys for us”.

Mario Barbiero (Biosì Indexa Sora): “It’s easy to describe Sir Safety Conad Perugia: great athletes, great team, great coach. Will be another test for us, I expect some answers from my players and from the team in general. They are very powerful in the serve and in attack, at the same time they are used to play as a team, in this early season. Will be tough for us, before Perugia and then Civitanova, we have to focus on our strength, that’sour goal”.

Fabio Ricci (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “Next sunday’s game will be a very important matchfor us, trying to continue to improve our play. The standings doesn’t matter, not important for the moment, we know will be a tough match, we know Sora will play at the top, they always play to grab some points, and on their home turf they will have the chance to play a good game”.

Tine Urnaut (Azimut Modena): “We started the season with the right step, we played alot of games in few days, probably the most important win has been last one in Verona. civitanova is a strong team, with alot of top players. We are still trying to find our balance and our chemistry, we will try to step on the court in our aggressive mode, in front of our fantastic fans. We should have continuity in side out, trying to force our serve. We are ready for the challenge”.

Osmany Juantorena (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “After the good win versus Trento here we are with another tough challenge, versus powerhouse Azimut Modena. they won all the games in Superleague, suffering only one loss by us in Supercup.
