“It was wonderful to celebrate last night with our fans,” says coach Andrea Anastasi. “We took a lot of photos in front of our corner and that was definitely the best moment of the day. We were excited and it also showed on the court I think, we really wanted to go home and show our fans the wonderful Club World Cup which is difficult to win and which we managed to bring to Perugia”.
First the match against Ziraat Ankara where Sir Sicoma Monini demonstrated once again, despite some understandable difficulties deriving from the tiredness accumulated in the previous days, important qualities.
“We came from a great World Cup and a very demanding return journey,” says Slovenian playmaker Gregor Ropret, who started on the pitch last night. “But when we take the field we forget everything, we have fun, we are strong and we play well. Yesterday we had a good game against a strong team, taking another step towards our most immediate goal in the Champions League, which is to finish the group in first place and qualify for the quarter-finals”.
Anastasi is also satisfied with his players.
“The team responded once again present. We had a terrible break in reception in the second set which cost us the partial, but after that phase we were superior in all other aspects of the game and very concentrated. I’m happy for Gregor (Ropret, ed), for Herrera who played another good concrete and important game, for Piccinelli. But in general for all guys. We are happy and serene, we try to recover Solè and Mengozzi as a condition, we go to Monza and then we prepare for the quarter-final of the Italian Cup which is certainly the most important moment of this end of December”.
