Clear ideas, a great desire to emerge and the awareness that by working well in the gym you can achieve the impossible. Marcello Mattioli presents himself in Porto Viro full of enthusiasm and ambition. The new second coach of the Delta Group has just returned from a triumphant season in Reggio Emilia, where, together with Vincenzo Mastrangelo, he won the Italian Cup and the A2 playoff.

An extraordinary (and unexpected) performance, which may be difficult to repeat in Polesine, but from which Mattioli draws inspiration for the next adventure alongside Matteo Battocchio: “If we all row on the same side with the utmost commitment on every ball in every training we can have fun – says Mattioli, 40 in a few weeks – Last year’s experience in Reggio taught me that dreams have no limits… And if you don’t set limits, dreams are transformed into awareness in decisive moments ”.

After disengaging on the field as a setter and as a libero, Mattioli began his career on the bench in the youth teams of Planet Volley. The transition to the senior categories with Energy Volley Parma, two seasons between Serie C and Serie B. Last year the call of Reggio Emilia in A2, a championship that they will face again this year with the Delta Group: “Everyone spoke very well to me of society and the environment nerofucsia. I had good feelings right from the first contacts with the club and I find it very stimulating to be able to work with coach Battocchio. When we were preparing for matches last year we were studying the choices that some coaches had made against our opponents at the weekend, and among them was Matteo, a sign that he is an extremely prepared coach. Mastrangelo, with whom I have shared many victories in the last year and of whom I have a deep esteem and now consider myself a friend, advised me not to miss this opportunity. In Porto Viro I meet Fefè Garnica, this is also a factor that has guided my choice ”.

Mattioli frames his task as follows: “The role of the second is very delicate and at times underestimated. In addition to technical, tactical and human skills, it is necessary to know how to read situations quickly and understand how and when to intervene directly or if it is better to be the first coach to do so. It is necessary to understand when to step back and when instead it is necessary to expose yourself in the first person. It is a delicate role but it can and must be a concrete help for the first coach, for the players and for the rest of the staff ”.
