Modena, which sees libero Federici back on the bench but loses Juantorena due to flu, starts with the sextet made up of Bruno-Sapozhkov in the main diagonal, Rinaldi-Davyskiba on the wing, Sanguinetti-Brehme in the middle with Gollini libero. Trento responds with Sbertoli-Rychlicki, hammers Michieletto-Lavia, middle blockers Podrascanin-Kozamernik and libero Laurenzano. At the start Trento tries to sprint forward, but Modena doesn’t give up an inch and it goes 8-8. The guests take a few breaks ahead with Kozamernik’s serve, 10-12. Modena doesn’t let their opponents escape, 16-18 with Sanguinetti’s first half. At the end of the partial Trento manages to make the decisive move, 21-25 with the winning block from Rychlicki. The start of the second set is balanced, 5-5 with Sapozhkov’s hands out. Trento breaks away, 8-11 with Kozamernik’s block, then 9-13. Modena regains parity with Sanguinetti’s great serve, 18-18, then Rinaldi finds the overtaking point at 20-19. Trento’s block turns it around again, 23-24, but Bruno’s charge and Davyskiba’s ace drag Modena to 27-25 which makes it 1-1. In the third set the yellow-blues immediately went ahead 3-0. Modena pushes, Sapozhkov places the ball in Trento’s field and it goes 11-8. With another spell from Captain Bruno the Canaries go 15-12. Sanguinetti’s first half sends Modena up 20-18, then Boninfante enters and with his winning serve he scores the 22-19. Modena puts their foot down on the accelerator, it is Davyskiba who closes the third set at 25-22 and makes the PalaPanini explode. Modena also starts strong in the quarter, immediately 5-3. The yellow-blues escape, 10-5, then Sapozhkov’s diagonal attack puts the score at 14-8. Modena now dominates far and wide, it goes 20-14. There is no escape for Trento in the final, Sapozhkov’s ace closes the match at 25-16 which makes it 3-1 for Modena which inflicts Trento’s first defeat of the season.
