Simone Anzani was reborn after a few weeks of apprehension about a heart problem. The world of volleyball supported him by respecting privacy, but by making their affection felt, starting with his teammates and the managers of Lube Volleyball. Now that the scare has passed, the athlete talks about the difficult weeks he experienced almost a month after one of the best days of his life, his marriage to Carolina. The athlete originally from Como had to deal with a sudden stop imposed by the Coni doctors due to suspected heart discomfort. A cold shower that took place on June 26 and kicked off a period of uncertainty and legitimate fear in terms of health, family and work. The anguish is behind us, everything worked out in the best possible way.

Let’s start from the beginning, what happened when you were with the national team?

Anzani: “I took part in the VNL stage in Holland and underwent the usual visits to CONI in the pre-Olympic year. Arrhythmias occurred during the exercise test. The doctors stopped me for further checks. The first steps were a holter and an MRI, but it was necessary to investigate further. The best route was that of a small operation that could also have required ablation. Everything went smoothly!”.

So what happened on Tuesday 18 July at the Cardiology and Arrhythmology Clinic of the United Hospitals of Ancona?

“I begin by saying that I have found great professionals. I take this opportunity to once again thank Professor Antonio Dello Russo and Professor Michela Casella, with their team. I also felt pampered by the federal doctor Piero Benelli and by the medical director of Lube, Mariano Avio. The first could not be present, but he constantly spoke with the doctor of the Club. I also found the utmost availability from Armando Gozzini, the general manager of the university hospital. I got away with a mapping and an electrophysiological study. The feared problems were not highlighted, while the values were within the norm”.

What were your thoughts from June 26 to today?

“In this period of thoughts, many thoughts have flashed through my head. Before being hospitalized in Ancona, I didn’t know exactly what results the study could give. Before being a sportsman I am a husband and a young father, I worried about my family and my health, then obviously I was disturbed by anxiety about my future in volleyball and disappointment at not being able to join my teammates in VNL, with whom there is great chemistry! In less than two weeks I will start training again and I will try to get back to my best to have my chances. The desire to represent Italy at the European Championships is more alive than ever”.

If your admirers wish it! They never left you alone.

“I have received beautiful testimonies of solidarity at all levels, from players, from Chicco Blengini, Fabio Giulianelli, Simona Sileoni, Albino Massaccesi and Beppe Cormio, from federal representatives, from fans and even from opponents. Eugenio Gollini and Angelo Lorenzetti also contacted me. The world of volleyball was really close to me”.

A new important competitive season awaits you in the Lube jersey!

“The Club is always in my thoughts! I followed the Champions League draw with interest. On paper, the polls have pardoned us because, despite being seeded, we could have drawn very tough teams. Rivals have arrived within our reach. It will be up to us to prove it on the field!”.
