When David Umek made it official at the Volley Team Club a little less than a year ago, there was talk of a market hit that would prove to be fundamental for the championship of San Donato. 365 days later but above all 397 points later, news arrives that was in the air: the Trieste spiker will be part of coach Moretti’s roster also in the 2023/24 season.
A player capable of scoring almost 1000 points in the last two championships in A3 (the last one with the Volley Team Club while the previous one with Volley Parella Torino) and who in the season that has just ended was one of the top scorers among spikers- receivers, Umek’s new role after a life as an opposite.

“David was one of the guys we wanted to focus on again this season and we were able to confirm it” explains Sports Director Eugenio Tassan “The negotiation was relatively easy: the boy believed in the project right away and decided to continue playing with us after having found himself very well in San Donà last year. On a technical and personal level he has a great aptitude for work, he immediately engaged in the change of role and has excellent room for improvement by working with coach Moretti. Personally I think he can become one of the strongest forwards in A3”.

As usual, we interviewed David to get the first sensations after signing the new contract:

Hi David, let’s start with the classic ritual question: what reasons prompted you to stay another season at the Volley Team?
“There are many reasons, last season I felt good here in San Donà and the desire to reconfirm myself only made me happy. You work well here and this is very important to me. It’s the right place to improve and consolidate your career of the role change I undertook last year; I am grateful to the Volley Team for allowing me to do so, so that I can improve on last season’s results and aim for great goals with the team”.

Can you tell us a little about coach Moretti?
“I had an excellent relationship with Coach Moretti and I’m glad he was promoted because I know how much he cares about pursuing his career and his ambitions. This year I was able to appreciate how prepared he is and I can’t wait to see him in this new as head coach.”

Are you informing yourself about the Volley Market? What season are you expecting?
“These days we are in the middle of the volleyball market and like every year the cards on the table are turning a bit. With the various sales of Serie A titles, I still don’t know what our group will be like but from the first news I have the impression that the level is rising further”.
