It took a hard-fought and emotional match for the Italian national team to qualify for the Final Four of the European Championships in Rome. The 3-2 inflicted on the Netherlands qualifies for the Semi-final, where the Azzurri will face France. The match is scheduled for Thursday 14 September at 9.15pm.

In front of a sold out PalaFlorio, the Azzurri led by Michieletto and Romanò (both over 20 points) overcame the Dutch selection at the tie break: after a first set characterized by Roberto Russo’s injury, the team coached by Ferdinando De Giorgi regains control of the game in the second and third sets, but only comes close to making a comeback in the fourth. At the tie break, after an “orange” start, the Azzurri lead 5-5, and accelerate to the final 15-12, thus gaining the pass for Roma. Nimir Abdel-Aziz’s 31 points are not enough for the Netherlands.

Italy, for the sixteenth time in history among the top four in Europe, will move to Rome this morning, Wednesday 13 September, with a dedicated flight.

Rome is therefore preparing to host the Final Four of the continental event, with the Palazzetto dello Sport which will be the scene of Italy – France at 9.15 pm, while at 6.00 pm Poland (which eliminated Serbia 3-1 in the quarter-finals) and Poland will open the dance Slovenia (beaten Ukraine again by 3-1).
