A couple more weeks and then six of them will respond present at the meeting scheduled by coach Angelo Lorenzetti for Monday 21 August. A convivial meeting the previous evening, then in the morning the delivery of the material and the official start to the new season with the start of preparation under the supervision of the new Juventus coach and his staff.
As mentioned, six players from the first team will be sweating between the PalaSir of Santa Maria degli Angeli (the PalaBarton is obviously unavailable in this first phase because it is one of the venues for the men’s European championship) and the weight room. With the others busy with their respective national selections, the free players Massimo Colaci and Alessandro Toscani, the opposite Wassim Ben Tara, the central players Sebastian Solè and Davide Candellaro and the spiker Tim Held will present themselves on August 21 in Perugia.
The new athletic trainer Sebastian Carotti will direct the operations regarding physical activity, while on the pitch, to regain confidence with the ball and with the fundamentals of the game, Lorenzetti will enjoy the collaboration of the new assistant coach Massimiliano Giaccardi, of the confirmed assistant coach Andrea Piacentini and the historic scout of the Block Devils Francesco Monopoli. A few guys from the black and white youth sector will help the technical staff to have a suitable number of elements to work with.
The team will carry out an initial part of the work purely on physical and technical recovery, then along the way team aspects and situations will be introduced to pick up the rhythm of the game and to develop Lorenzetti’s technical-tactical ideas.
“It is clear that a particular preparation is about to begin, as always happens to first-tier teams, that is, with very few players from the squad initially available”, explains Angelo Lorenzetti. “Even though I’m quite used to this type of start to the season, it’s evident that on the one hand we coaches like to work with the full team, but it’s still a situation that indicates that there are important players in the squad. As far as we’re concerned, we’ll start and proceed calmly especially in knowing the kids that will be there. The physical aspect will be the main one in the first phase, the inclusion of some young people from the youth sector will help us to introduce something technical to get the players ready when the others involved with the national teams arrive. Initially it will be important to offer the players present a job made up of not very long but intense sessions and to set goals to achieve week by week.
