Last leg but not last of the year for this Serie A2 Credem Banca Volleyball Championship season 2023/2024. Those who currently have the misfortune of being the last two in the class will clash in Ortona in a race that could revive or destroy their hopes of remaining in this series. Ortona and Castellana Grotte will cross paths on Tuesday 26 December, Boxing Day, at 6.00 pm at the Ortona sports hall.

Only one point between the two teams. BCC has seven, Sieco eight. Before them, there is Pineto with twelve points and further ahead a large group of contenders with sixteen. It is therefore not difficult to imagine how important the three points up for grabs are for both.

With the exception of a couple of exceptions, the spiker Bermudez (born in 1994) and the libero Battista (1995), the Castellani can count on the genuine and healthy “unpredictability” of a plethora of young and talented athletes born between 2000 and 2004. A time bomb triggered by boys already in the Junior national teams with whom they won important trophies. Compagnoni, Pol, Cianciotta, Iervolino (spikers), Balestra (central), Fanizza (setter), although young, have already tasted high-level international competitions.

«Castellana Grotte is a very interesting team», says Coach Lanci. «It is made up of very young people who will most likely be the future of national volleyball and who have been able to give a hard time to teams that are on paper better equipped such as Pineto and Cuneo and always taking sets from their opponents. Underestimating these kids would be a mortal sin that we must not and cannot afford. As far as we are concerned, we have every desire to repeat the success achieved in Reggio Emilia after having finally expressed our potential. Training continues and the understanding between the new arrival Dimitrov and his teammates is increasing. If bad luck turns its back on us we will be able to have our say from here on out”
