A market hit for the leadership of the ShedirPharma Sorrento technical staff, who will rely on coach Francesco Racaniello in the 2023/24 season.
Originally from Bitontino, the coach born in 1984 began his volleyball career as a scout in the ranks of Gioia del Colle, Corigliano and Atripalda (A2). With the Irpinia in 2014 he won the Italian Cup, and after a two-year experience in the youth teams of San Marino, he returned to Campania where as first coach he obtained promotion to Serie B with Ischia, also led the following year in the cadetteria. After a season in Atripalda, in 2020/21 he moved to Taranto (A2) where as second coach he won promotion to the SuperLega. There is still Campania in the destiny of coach Racaniello with the salvation obtained in A3 as head coach of Marcianise. In the season that has just ended, the coach has chosen to further enrich his technical baggage by choosing Vibo Valentia (A2) as second coach, where he won the Italian Cup, Super Cup and Championship by overcoming Bergamo in the play-offs.
In his curriculum there is also a participation in the World Cup as scoutman of Venezuela, as well as being on the staff of the Austrian national team at the 2019 French European Championships.

After the treble as second in A2 in Vibo, you return to A3 as coach of ShedirPharma Sorrento. How did this possibility come about, and can it be said that Campania is good for you from a volleyball point of view?

“This opportunity arose from the relationship of deep esteem that has always existed between sporting director Ruggiero and me. I had already decided to go back to playing the role of head coach, and I considered Sorrento the right opportunity to do so after the important experience in Vibo Valentia. In Calabria I really increased my coaching baggage, and I can’t wait to put all the lessons I received into practice “.

What team will it be and what characteristics did you want your players to have?

“Knowing my working methods, it will certainly be a roster that will never spare itself in the gym. I strongly wanted a workforce made up of good guys from a human point of view, who share the values of work and sacrifice. This will be exactly what I will ask from the day of the first training session that we will have here in Sorrento”.
