Another tie break at the Unipol Arena. Sir Susa Vim Perugia joins Mint Vero Volley Monza in the Del Monte® Italian Cup Final and will play tomorrow to win the tricolor rosette number 46. It will be the seventh final for the Umbrian club, 3 of which they won (2018 in Bari against Civitanova, 2019 in Bologna again against the Cucineri and 2022 again at the Unipol Arena against Trento) and 3 lost (at the Pala Dozza in 2014 against Piacenza, in 2020 and 2021 at the Unipol Arena against Lube) and the first in the SuperLega for the Vero club Volleyball Monza. Tomorrow’s match, starting at 3.45 pm (live on Rai Due starting from 4.00 pm), will therefore be an unprecedented epilogue to the Del Monte® Coppa Italia.

Well done to Perugia, who had lost the first championship match of the season against Allianz Milano, not to be intimidated by the defeat in the first set and the comeback in the fourth but equally deserving of Milan in recovering a fourth set that seemed lost and postponing the verdict to fifth. Among the “Block Devils” worth mentioning are Ben Tara’s 21 points, Plotnytskyi’s 75% in attack but also Solè’s 7 point blocks, as well as all of Milan, while Piazza’s boys had contribution from the usual Ishikawa.

At the end of the minute’s silence in memory of Gigi Riva, the two sextets began to put on a show on the tricolor mondoflex of Casalecchio di Reno.

Many serving errors characterize the start of the match (7-7) then ace by Porro for 11-13 and attack by Piano (13-16, Lorenzetti time out). Sir makes a lot of mistakes on serve and Allianz has no difficulty getting to 0-1 with Loser (20-25).

Ready, go and 0-3 on Loser’s serve, Sir Susa Vim tries to stay in the wake and takes the lead with Ben Tara (10-11, Piazza time out). In the middle of the set Plotnytskyi and Ben Tara take the lead together with Russo’s serves and Sir Susa Vim reaches a draw (25-23).

In the third set, Perugia’s first real push (8-4) forces Piazza to time out. At 10-4 Milan begins a series of changes but now Perugia has the set in hand and goes to 2-1 (25-15)

Russo’s turn of service also seems to direct the fourth set (from 2-2 to 7-2) but, when the Perugians seemed in control (16-8), Allianz shows off their pride and equalizes (18-18 ). In the final Ishikawa makes Milan rejoice and we go to the fifth set (23-25).

Immediately 5-2 for Lorenzetti’s boys (Piazza time out), the Perugian wall is impenetrable: Milan can’t handle it again, ace from Porro to make it 12-11 but the final scream comes from Sir with Leon’s ace (15-11).
