Four times on court, always on Sunday, in this month of January. Three times in Grottazzolina, once in enemy territory. The Yuasa Battery wants to start strong in 2024 by taking advantage of the field factor, thus continuing in the wake of the excellent first round which saw coach Massimiliano Ortenzi’s team round the mark in first place alone. We start with Reggio Emilia, Sunday 7 January at 6pm. The other two home matches of the month will be in the presence of Ortona (14 January) and Castellana Grotte (28 January), in the middle the big match in Porto Viro which will tell us a lot about evolution of the championship (January 21). One step at a time: here is Reggio Emilia, a grumpy opponent to be faced with the right manners. Ortenzi, very skilled in managing his men, knows that he will be able to count on the entire group which until now has always been able to react to the difficulties linked to the infirmary and seasonal ailments. Aleksandar Mitkov’s performance is very positive. In his fourth year in Italy, after three seasons in A3 with Brugherio and Montecchio Maggiore, the Bulgarian has always been ready in front of the net with his centimeters and his power. “I am very happy with this experience that I am gaining with the Yuasa Battery – says Sofia’s hammer -. The technical staff and the club, the team and the fans give me peace of mind. An important championship for me: in A2 I have to demonstrate my potential and it is a great incentive to do so here in Grottazzolina, in addition to having Rasmus Breuning in front of me, the best opposite in the championship. Furthermore, it is a great advantage to be part of a very solid group that wants to win.” Mitkov also boasts experience in the championships of France (with Lyon), Hungary (with Deya Volley) and Turkey (with Siran Akademi Spor Kulubu). But Italy remains Italy: “The level here in Italy is very high, in my opinion higher than in France and Turkey. I’m talking about technical and athletic preparation: here there is obsessive care where to obtain results everything must go perfectly.” Reggio Emilia arrives on Sunday. Mitkov has no doubts: “It will be another match to be played point to point where the support of the public will be fundamental. On December 26, against Aversa, there were a lot of people at the palas: that support there is fundamental.”
