The two VNL semifinals, Italy-Slovenia and Brazil-Poland, were played today. In the 9:00 a.m. match, Ferdinando De Giorgi’s Azzurri defeated Fabio Soli’s Slovenia 3-1 with scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-18, thus reaching a historic and deserved final, the first in the Azzurri’s history. Simone Anzani, who started the match, scored four points, while Porro and Sanguinetti remained on the bench.
The three Modena Volley players have also been included in the 25-man pre-call for the World Championships, to be held in Manila, Philippines, from September 12th to 28th.
At 1:00 PM, Brazil was defeated 3-0 by Poland (26-28, 19-25, 21-25). The Brazilian team also featured yellow-and-blue spiker Arthur Bento, who scored four points.
The finals of the competition are scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, August 3rd: Italy vs. Poland for 1st and 2nd place at 1:00 PM, while Slovenia and Brazil will battle for third and fourth place in the match scheduled for 9:00 AM.
