Sviluppo Sud Catania announces the signing of middle blocker Carmelo Gitto for the 2025/2026 season.
This arrival brings great experience and technical depth to Catania’s roster for the upcoming competitive season.
Carmelo Gitto, born in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (Messina) on July 14, 1987, is one of the most experienced middle blockers in Italian volleyball. Having developed in the youth teams of Volley Brolo, he won a youth championship in 2006 with Lube Macerata. He played for Latina, Verona, and Siena before arriving in Palmi for the 2021-2022 season.
In 2007/08 and 2008/09, he won the “G. Badiali” award (best Italian U23 player in Serie A2). With the Italian national team, he won the bronze medal at the 2006 European Junior Championships.
Carmelo Gitto doesn’t hide his excitement about this return to Sicily: “I’m very excited about this experience in Catania because Sicily is my birthplace, and I grew up here until I was 14. It’s a thrill for me to return to my homeland; I can’t wait to get started and try not to disappoint. I also chose Catania because of the respect I have for President Pino Carbone. I truly believe in the project he’s launched, and I couldn’t help but follow him on this new adventure. I’m sure we’ll have fun.”
