Smiles at Emma Villas Codyeco Lupi Siena after the Tuscan team’s 3-0 victory over Catania on the second day of the Serie A2 volleyball championship. Coach Francesco Petrella’s team thus earned their first three points of the tournament, thus redeeming themselves after losing their opening match in Pineto.
The Tuscans remained ahead for virtually the entire match. The white-red-and-blue team performed well on offense, with opposite hitter Gabriele Nelli (named MVP of the match) and spiker Luigi Randazzo scoring 18 points each. The service was also excellent, with a total of seven winners: five from Gabriele Nelli and two from Mikkel Hoff. But overall, all the fundamentals provided positive responses, with 54% of receptions and 11 winning blocks (five by Victorio Ceban) compared to the Sicilians’ three.
“It was really important to get a result in this match,” commented Emma Villas Codyeco Lupi Siena spiker Luigi Randazzo after Sunday’s victory against Catania, “to redeem ourselves after the game in Pineto. We had a great start to the game, then we played well and were consistent.
