An Italian medal arrives at Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina. Giulio Magalini, a new spiker from Grottazzolina, earned it as a key player for the Italian national team at the Universiade held in Germany. This prestigious result, perhaps, alleviates the bitterness of the semifinal loss to Brazil by coach Fanizza’s boys in a tie-break. The Italian team, however, remains a great one, with Magalini leading the way in the starting four and, above all, standing out in the final two games. Against Brazil, Magalini was the game’s top scorer with 17 points, and he also scored 14 points against Japan, thus proving crucial in reaching the milestone.

The Verona-born spiker, coming from Trento, is very happy, even though his words clearly indicate that not making the final has left a bitter taste in the mouth. “I’m very happy to have brought home the podium,” Magalini emphasizes, “but I’m a little disappointed by losing to Brazil in the semifinals and not being able to fight for the gold medal. It was definitely a great experience within a gigantic and fantastic organization. An environment that also allows you to come into contact with so many cultures and very different teams; this is a personal and technical enrichment.”
