Regarding Anna Chiara Valle’s comments on the Rai Radio 3 podcast “Prima Pagina” (Saturday, August 16th), commenting on what Repubblica journalist Massimo Giannini said about the case of a volleyball player fired for being pregnant, the Sir Safety Perugia club intends to distance itself from the association of the name “Perugia Volley” with an incident that in no way concerns the Perugia men’s volleyball club, which plays in the Serie A championship.
Acknowledging that this is not the first time the name “Perugia Volley” has been erroneously used in the media to discuss the incident involving a player from the Perugia women’s volleyball team, the club, led by President Gino Sirci, intends to distance itself from an incident that is completely unrelated to its moral principles. It emphasizes that the term “Perugia Volley” could lead readers to associate this news story with their club, which has nothing to do with this incident, being a men’s volleyball club.
The club emphasizes that “Sir Volley Perugia” is the name exclusively of the men’s volleyball team. Therefore, it invites media outlets and anyone reporting or commenting on incidents involving the women’s volleyball team to use and specify the club’s correct name to avoid any potential misunderstandings.
