Today, Monday 7 July, Cisterna Volley enthusiastically joins World Volleyball Day, the global event promoted by the FIVB to celebrate a historic and symbolic anniversary for the entire world of volleyball.
This date, in fact, marks the 130th anniversary of the first public demonstration of the game, created in 1895 by William G. Morgan. Born with the name of “Mintonette”, volleyball was initially practiced only inside the YMCA of Holyoke, in the United States. It was Morgan who presented it to the public for the first time by bringing two teams to Springfield College, where the new sport was demonstrated to those responsible for physical education: a key moment that would pave the way for the worldwide spread of the discipline.
Today, over a century later, volleyball is celebrated with an initiative that unites generations, histories and cultures. World Volleyball Day will be an opportunity for fans, athletes and enthusiasts of all ages to share content on social media using the hashtag #WorldVolleyballDay, participate in digital initiatives and talk about their connection with this sport, answering the question: “How do you play volleyball your way?”
From all those who upload a video to the dedicated platform, the winners of two balls autographed by protagonists of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be drawn.
