For the past two seasons, he’s been a starter for Brescia, where he won an Italian Cup and played in a playoff final and semifinal. Now, Alessandro Tondo begins a new adventure under coach Marco Bonitta as the new Essence Hotels player.
A 202cm middle blocker from Lecce, born in 1991, Tondo has been a key player in Serie A2 over the past two years, standing out last season with 217 points, 22 aces, and 46 blocks.
After stints with Reggio Emilia, Milan, Piacenza, Vibo Valentia, Catania, and Brescia, he now joins Fano: “I’m happy to have accepted Fano’s offer because they have a significant project in place, and the team they’ve built for next season is competitive and ambitious. Last but not least, there’s the presence of coach Bonitta, whom I had the pleasure of meeting in 2010 when I was playing for Reggio Emilia and occasionally joined the first team as a young player. Back then, he made an immediate positive impression on me.”
The new Virtus center then opens up: “I know Fano as an organized and well-structured club,” Tondo continues. “My goal is to have a high-level season. The team is new but high-quality, with a top-notch coach.” Tondo then discusses his personal ambitions and his role: “I’ve always excelled in attack, but I also want to do well in blocking,” says the Apulian. “Besides that, I’m a center who occasionally likes to play opposite.”
Alessandro Tondo will be welcomed with his usual enthusiasm by the Fano fans, who have never failed to show their affection for the team over the years: “In my opinion, the fans are the soul of the team,” Tondo concludes. “I’ve always been grateful to the fans who supported me. For my part, I assure you of my full availability; I’d like to leave something important behind in Fano as well.”
