The SuperCup, raised to the sky last night by the Block Devils, arrived this morning to take pride of place at the Sir Safety System headquarters in Santa Maria degli Angeli. This is where all the trophies won by President Gino Sirci’s club are displayed, a sporting association that last night at the PalaTrieste wrote another page in its history by establishing itself among the elite of volleyball.
This Super Cup is a record-breaking trophy for Sir Susa Scai Perugia. Records on several fronts: starting with the number of times it has been won, a remarkable seven. With this achievement, the black and white club has drawn level with Treviso, which until yesterday led the roll of honor with seven wins between the 1998/99 and 2007/08 seasons.
But Sir Susa Scai Perugia has achieved other records that have cemented their place in the history of this trophy: last night’s victory was the fourth consecutive for the black and white club, establishing themselves as the first team to win the Del Monte® Super Cup four consecutive seasons, surpassing Treviso themselves, who had won three in a row.
President Gino Sirci knows he’s written another page in history, not only for his club, but also in the world of volleyball: “It’s the seventeenth trophy we’ve won since we’ve been in A1, but it’s not enough! This one has arrived, and we really wanted it because we wanted to erase the defeat against Verona in Bologna. But today we wanted this victory, with all our strength, with all our patience, and our defensive wall is what made it happen because we won through replays and the “filters” we used. Great work by the coach and the team, who knew how to interpret the coach’s teachings well. It’s wonderful to represent Perugia right now!”
