Having already qualified for the SuperLega Credem Banca Playoff Semifinals, Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia and Cucine Lube Civitanova are preparing for their European fixtures, which will see them compete this week in the first leg of their quarterfinals, the last match before the CEV Champions League Final Four in Turin.
The first to take to the field will be Angelo Lorenzetti’s Block Devils, who travel to Spain to face Guaguas Las Palmas, a team they faced (and defeated on both occasions) in the Pool Phase of this season’s CEV Champions League. On the other side of the net, there will be a few familiar faces: in addition to Osmany Juantorena, one of the Spanish team’s key players, there will also be Francisco Wallyson Bezerra Souza, who spent two seasons at Santa Croce, Tomas Rousseaux, who played in Italy with Modena and Monza, and Bulgarian Dobromir Dimitrov, who spent time in Taviano, Ortona, and Perugia. The match is scheduled for 8:00 PM Italian time tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24th, and will be broadcast live on Sky Sport and DAZN.
Cucine Lube Civitanova will take the field on Wednesday, March 25th, at 8:30 PM at the Eurosuole Forum. After qualifying for the Playoff Semifinals, they’re aiming to continue their Champions League adventure. Their opponent in the two-legged quarterfinals is Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, a Polish team that finished first in Pool D. Zawiercie also boasts several players who have played in the Italian league, including Aaron Russell, who was admired at Perugia, Trento, and Piacenza; Miguel Tavares Rodrigues, who plays at Piacenza; Jurij Gladyr, who previously played at Siena; and Mateusz Bieniek, who played for Civitanova for one season in 2019/20. The match will also be available on Sky and DAZN.
