“A huge thank you to all the staff, to all the guys who are giving us a great experience that went far beyond what we expected. Our thanks go to the sponsors and commercial partners who supported us. Above all, we thank this wonderful crowd, whom we hope to welcome back next year. Because we’ll be there.” This was New Mater Volley president Michele Miccolis’s statement on Sunday evening, after the second set of the second leg of the quarterfinal playoff against Acqui Terme, which eliminated BCC Tecbus Castellana Grotte from the postseason of the Credem Banca men’s national A3 volleyball championship. These few words, however, sum up the spirit of the entire yellow-blue club for what could have been this season, but above all for what has been.

“The result certainly wasn’t what we all hoped for,” Miccolis himself commented, “but we’re talking about a season that left us deeply satisfied: not only because it left us with so many emotions, but also and above all because we managed to achieve the two goals we set ourselves. The first was always to do the best we could in terms of results, enhancing the talent and the young players on our roster. The second was certainly to rekindle enthusiasm in the city and fill the Pala Grotte stadium again. We felt the thrill of having the crowds we used to have on big occasions again, and this fills us with happiness, but also burdens us with responsibility for the future.”
