The postseason begins for Banca Macerata Fisiomed, the much-desired goal from the start of the season. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it’s not time to look back, as a series of extremely high technical and competitive levels awaits, where every detail will be considered to continue the dream. For Game 1, a round valid for the Serie A2 Credem Banca playoff quarterfinals, the red and whites will visit the tucani of Gruppo Sferc Consoli Brescia on Sunday, April 12th in Lombardy at 5:30 PM.
After the break that awarded the A2 Super Cup to league leaders Abba Pineto, the playoff race officially begins: eight teams, one goal. Brescia starts as the favorite and with home advantage, but Macerata intends to play its cards right to the end, looking for an away win that, if confirmed in all three games, would be truly surprising.
The Opponents
Tucani coach Zambonardi, following the recent Super Cup defeat, was clear: no drama, his team’s season begins now. Because, as we all know, the playoffs are a championship unto themselves, with the final standings of the teams only a secondary consideration. Gruppo Consoli, however, arrives confident in their second-place finish, making them one of the most likely candidates for the big jump, and it couldn’t be otherwise. The white-and-blues’ starting six has physicality, talent, charisma, and experience to spare: the director is Mancini—the leading setter in points scored this season and the leading aces player (78 in 102 sets played)—with Lucconi, an old acquaintance of the Marche region, in the middle. The elite spikers include starters Cavuto and Cominetti, Berger-Tondo at center, and Rossini as libero.
Red and White Home
If the series outcome inevitably leans toward the home team, Fall and his teammates may well be the “spoilsports” team, who will have the opportunity to make their mark and outmaneuver a team that will be under much greater pressure on the court. Banca Macerata Fisiomed will try, knowing they’ll be entering the match more rested and with all the credentials to be an outsider. Potential is abundant: when they find consistency, the red and white team can play at a high level. A careful and courageous performance will be needed to try to seize home advantage and secure a spot in the quarterfinals. The team’s two helmsmen are well aware of this, speaking to us on the eve of the match:
“We’re thrilled to have achieved this goal, but we’ve entered the concrete phase where we must honor them in the best possible way.
