The Scudetto Final in the Credem Banca SuperLega is just a few days away. On Thursday, April 30, 2026 (8:30 PM), Giampaolo Medei’s Cucine Lube Civitanova will debut against Angelo Lorenzetti’s Sir Susa Scai Perugia at the Pala Barton Energy in Game 1 of the best-of-five series. The red and white coach spoke about his team and the fight for the title.
What does reaching the second consecutive Scudetto Final tell us about the team’s identity?
Medei: “It tells us we’ve earned an extraordinary opportunity, a chance we must exploit in every way possible. It will be a priority to play all our cards. We’ll evaluate it at the end of the season, but this group, which was formed two years ago and has remained unchanged this season, repays us for choosing to focus on talented young players, with experienced additions as key figures. The path the Club has undertaken is based on a solid idea: to take on promising players in an attempt to make them champions. Reaching the Scudetto final again is a sign of acquired maturity.”
The greatest pressure is on Sir; has Lube grown in confidence in its own abilities?
I don’t like to talk about what happens on the other side of the net, nor make predictions. We’re about to face a match that has become a true classic in the Final, as Lube and Sir are going head-to-head for the Italian title for the sixth time. It will be a highly emotional match, both on the court and in the stands. We’ll be fully enjoying another important experience with the goal of taking the decisive step. We don’t know if raising the bar even further will be enough, but it’s important to be fully aware of our capabilities!
When did you realize Lube would be competing for the title against Sir?
After our best win this year, Game 3 of the Credem Banca Playoff Semifinals at the Pala Agsm AIM against Rana Verona. It was a crucial match, technically challenging and competitively intense. That day, we showed a truly convincing attitude on the court; we managed to achieve what we had long set out to do. We need to repeat that performance in the Final.
What phrase or word best describes the Lube team?
“I know it’s an overused term, but when I think of Lube, I visualize a ‘resilient’ group. Ours has been a long season, going through many challenging moments. No one ever gave up, and we’ve gotten this far by taking advantage of our chances, without losing faith in ourselves!”
